This is a great article about an inspiring teacher who uses “who would you like to sit next to?” surveys as a way of keeping track of student wellbeing and how classroom social structures change. I have used the approach a couple of times, and I have been consistently amazed by how insightful students can be about their peers and their own wants and needs.

My version is a small card that has a section for “who do I work well with?” and another for “who distracts me?”
